Reclining Buddha, Wat Pho, Bangkok, Thailand, 2013.

Wat Pho in Bangkok is the oldest and largest temple complex in the capital city of Thailand and amongst its many temples the most famous enshrines the Reclining Buddha, the largest Buddha image in the whole of Thailand.

Taking a good picture of it is awkward because the walls of the temple hug it so tightly. It’s 150ft long and the walkway around it is only 6ft wide, if that.
The feet of the Reclining Buddha are quite amazing as well as they are intricately inlaid with the 108 auspicious symbols of Buddha in mother-of-pearl.

All in all, Wat Pho was my favorite temple that we visited in Thailand. Less crowded than the, in my opinion, overrated Grand Palace and with numerous nooks and crannies to explore. If any of you end up with only one day in Bangkok, that would be the thing to see.

As usual, click the pictures for full size.
