Golden Buddha, Wat Traimit, Bangkok, Thailand, 2013.

One of the temple we visited in Bangkok last year was Wat Traimit, which holds the Golden Buddha, officially called Phra Phuttha Maha Suwan Patimakon, picture above. It is the world’s largest solid gold statue, with a weight of 5.5 tons and is probably worth a whole lot of money.

Although I’m not a Buddhist, I do have a thing for Buddha, both his teachings (very practical and hands-on, I like that a lot) and his images, I’ve always found something mesmerizing in Buddha’s many faces. Something that deeply inspired the deity I created in the world of Alymphia in my novel The WorldMight. Actually I like it so much that I even got one tattooed on me while I was there.

So far it seems like I end up with a tattoo each time I’m in Bangkok, go figure…
